The Study Centre

This purpose ecologically designed building is powered by wind power and uses passive solar gains and solar panels to provide heat. It has a turf roof and uses sheeps wool for insulating the cavity walls.

When not in use this space can be hired by other groups at £70 per day. To book this contact Nichola on 015242 21880 (answerphone checked each day).

The Community Yurt

Adjacent to the study centre is the community yurt (20ft diameter Mongolian circular tent). It is used by volunteers and visitors for accomodation.

Occasionally this is let out for use to groups using the Study Centre for additional sleeping or workshop space. This has a small gas cooker and a wood burnig stove. Use of this space is separate to the study centre - extra charges will be incurred if the Centre is used as this is owned by Middle Wood Charitable Trust. The Camping Barn

The Roeburndale camping barn is situated in a secluded meadow on the banks of the River Roeburn, and surrounded by native woodlands. It is a mile walk through the woods and over a swing bridge. It is ideal for walkers, friends get together, study groups, or simply as a quiet retreat.

There are two floors each about 30 m2 and a balcony over looking the river. The upstairs has bunk beds for 16 people. Some double and some single beds.

Down stairs there are table and chairs, gas cooker and wood burning stove. Plenty of eating utensils are provided. There are simple washing and compost toilet facilities.

Outside there is a field and a small fire place.

Hire Rates; Groups with exclusive use
Per night £40, Full weekend (Fri, Sat, &Sun) £100
Full week £170.

Group size over 16, each extra person £2 per night. Teenage groups under 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult or pay a £100 additional deposit.

Individuals £4.50 per night (Groups get priority booking).
Fire wood is £3.00 per bag extra.

The Camping barn is run by Jane McArthur who lives in the farm house at Middle Wood.

Camping by the River

Occasionally we allow quiet wilderness camping by the river for up to 4 tents.

This area has no facilities except a beautiful river surrounded by woodland and herb rich fields.

A Yurt tent may be hired at £60 per week or part week.

The Rural Classroom

The classroom space was formerly used by the Lancaster steiner school and is located in the farmyard near the car park. The space is available for meetings and has two rooms.
